SANTA FE SPRINGS, CA - Approximately 45 fleet managers and fleet suppliers were present at the Municipal Equipment Maintenance Association (MEMA) meeting on September 22, which focused on vehicle oils.

The meeting was hosted by Rosemead Oil Products at its Santa Fe Springs, Calif. facility. Rosemead Oil is the manufacturer and distributor of Smart Oil products, a re-refined oil.

The event started with a networking opportunity as well as short tours of the Rosemead Oil facility.

Phil Korosec, of MidContinental Chemical Company, Inc., which provides additive solutions to the petroleum industry, spoke about engine oil performance and quality as well as associations and OEMs that license, certify, or approve engine oils. He stressed that re-refined oil is no different from virgin oil, focusing on the environmental benefits of re-refined oil use.

Jim Gray of Green Oil USA presented the products that the company provides, including the Evans waterless heavy-duty thermal coolant, combust fuel filter, engine oil bypass filter, and CleanBoost fuel catalyst.

Steve Kirchner, COO of Soms Technologies, the manufacturer of the MicroGreen oil filter, spoke about MicroGreen's two-filters-in-one system and how it works. According to Kirchner, benefits for fleets using the filter include drastically reduced maintenance costs and environmental benefits.

Tribologik, an oil analysis company, was represented by the company's managing director, Neil Salem. Salem explained the process of oil analysis, used by fleets to calculate when an oil change is necessary.

Finally, Kelly Tidwell of Pure Power! Inc., presented the company's stainless-steel, reusable oil filters.

The meeting included a lunch and ended with a report of MEMA business.
