Chicago to Combine Fleet Management and General Services

April 25, 2011

CHICAGO – Chicago’s Mayor-elect Emanuel announced that David Reynolds will lead the Department of General Services, which will incorporate the City's Department of Fleet Management. Making good on his promise to make the fleet smaller and “greener,” Emanuel said the new Commissioner will use his background in green technology and sustainable development in managing the fleet and City facilities. Currently, Fleet Management and General Services are separate departments in the City.

"As Commissioner, David Reynolds will manage all City government property, from facilities and leases to the vehicle fleet. He will be charged with improving the energy efficiency of City buildings and vehicles, which will save taxpayers money while maintaining a high quality of service delivery,” said Emanuel. “David is the right person to implement these changes. He has a strong background in facilities management, expertise in green technology and sustainable development, a track record of outstanding service in City government, and excellent engineering credentials.”

According to the Chicago Sun Times, Chicago operates more than 12,400 vehicles that Fleet Management maintains.

According to the news release from Chicago, Reynolds is currently Vice President of Real Estate Services at IFF, the Midwest's largest nonprofit community development financial institution.

Previously, Reynolds led the Chicago environmental practice of AECOM (formerly Earth Tech). Reynolds has also served First Deputy Commissioner in Chicago's Department of Environment, where he launched some of the city’s most successful green initiatives, including the Chicago Center for Green Technology and Green Homes for Chicago. He is an engineer and a LEED Accredited Professional.
