The Chicago Office of the Inspector General (OIG) released its annual plan, listing topics that will be under investigation in the coming year. In the plan, the office noted that it has received reports from the Chicago Police Department that nearly 10% of police vehicles are unavailable because they are undergoing service at fleet maintenance facilities — nearly double the industry standard.

According to reports, the average length of time to service police vehicles is 21.3 days, which exceeds industry standards. The OIG plans to examine the city fleet's maintenance of police vehicles and identify any opportunites for improvement.
