L.A. Sheriff to Test Trio of New 2015 Models

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department will evaluate three new police vehicles, including an electric motorcycle, in the fall during its annual vehicle testing of 23 2015 model-year vehicles.

The agency plans to test the battery-electric Zero DSP motorcycle, the four-wheel-drive Chevrolet Tahoe PPV, and the refreshed Dodge Charger Pursuit in addition to existing models, the agency has announced.

The sheriff's department will test 14 four-wheeled vehicles including the AWD 3.7L Ford Police Interceptor sedan; V-6 Chevrolet Caprice PPV; V-6 Charger Pursuit; FWD 3.5L Ford P.I. sedan; Chevrolet Impala Limited; AWD V-8 Charger Pursuit; AWD EcoBoost Ford P.I. sedan; V-8 Caprice PPV; AWD EcoBoost Ford P.I. Utility; V-8 Charger Pursuit; RWD Tahoe PPV; AWD 3.7L Ford P.I. Utility; V-6 Charger Pursuit; and 4WD Tahoe PPV.

The agency will also test nine motorcycles, including the Honda ST1300P; BMW R1200RT-P; Moto Guzzi Norge; Harley Davidson FLHP (Road King); Victory Commander I; Harley Davidson FLHTP (Electra Glide); Moto Guzzi California 1400; H-D FLHTP Electra Special; and Zero DSP.

The bulk of the vehicle testing has been scheduled for Oct. 14-16 at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif. Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors will host ride-and-drive events. For more info, contact the agency's communication and fleet management bureau at (323) 881-3982.
