The California Energy Commission has awarded $16 million to a Houston-based company to develop seven new hydrogen stations in the northern part of the state, according to a release.

Three stations will be located in San Francisco, while two others will be in Sacramento. The other two will be in Walnut Creek and Berkeley.

The commission awarded the grant to Equilon Enterprises LLC, which does business as Shell Oil Products US. So far, the commission has funded 60 stations statewide. Of those, 29 are now in operation.
