The City of Burbank, Calif., recently took delivery of five compressed natural gas (CNG) street sweepers, purchasing them for a total cost of $1.7 million. The sweepers have Cummins 8.9 CNG engines, Elgin Broom Bears sweeper bodies, and Freightliner M2 112 cab and chassis, David Rodriguez, fleet superintendent, City of Burbank, told Government Fleet.

"We are required by regulations to purchase CNG sweepers, but because we are a green city, CNG sweepers would have been our choice of fuel for these sweepers [anyway]," Rodriguez said.

The five new sweepers used by the Public Works Dept., Street Maintenance Division, replace CNG sweepers that were between nine and 10 years old. They were all sold at auction. The City has a total of seven street sweepers in its fleet.
