Northern Calif. Fleets Participate in Plug-In EV Readiness Workshop

May 18, 2012

SACRAMENTO, CA – The Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG) hosted a California Community Plug-In Electric Vehicle Readiness Workshop on May 18. Three 100 Best Fleets government fleet managers participated in this workshop, which focused on actions communities can take to update local codes and regional planning practices for EVs.

Dave Head, fleet manager for Sonoma County, gave an update on zoning and parking rules and spoke about outreach to local residents and businesses.

Other community actions include updating building codes, streamlining permitting and inspection, and participating in training and education.

Head, Keith Leech, fleet manager for the City of Sacramento, and Richard Battersby, director of fleet services for UC Davis, participated in a discussion on the need and benefits of workplace charging and showed local examples of workplace charging.

"The Plug-In Electric Vehicle Collaborative's strategic plan, Taking Charge, aspires to facilitate PEV market growth so that, by the end of the decade, hundreds of thousands of PEVs are sold annually in California and the market contributes significantly to California’s ongoing economic, energy and environmental policy objectives," Leech said. "Its strategic focus intends to solidify California as a technological, manufacturing, economic, and policy leader that benefits from – and shapes – the global PEV market for decades to come."

Fleet managers can visit the Plug-In Electric Resource Center to learn how to prepare for the EVs coming to their community.
