LOS ANGELES - The Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA) has extended and amended an electric vehicle testing program with BYD Motors Inc.

HACLA is testing a total of seven F3DM (dual mode) sedans, and will continue the tests through December 31, 2012. The F3DM vehicles can manually switch to an all-electric vehicle mode, like a conventional battery-electric vehicle (BEV). To travel farther than 60 miles, a driver can switch the vehicle to a plug-in-hybrid electric mode.

"HACLA has tracked the effectiveness of the BYD electric vehicles for the last year and estimate our savings per-car to be approximately 76% over that of our gasoline vehicles with the same mileage," said Ken Simmons, HACLA Interim-President & CEO.
