St. Lawrence County, N.Y., is considering a contract with Enterprise Fleet Management to begin leasing its vehicles rather than owning them to save at least $500,000 over a 10-year period, reports the Watertown Daily Times.
During a presentation to county legislators, Enterprise's William Backus said leasing is cost effective because it allows the county to regularly replace older vehicles with newer ones that have lower maintanance costs, better mileage, and the factory warranty still in place.
The average age of the county's 130-vehicle fleet is eight years. Enterprise has proposed reducing the county fleet to 113 vehicles and replace vehicles on a five-year cycle.
