PIEDMONT, AL - The Piedmont Rescue Squad lost its ability to use the City of Piedmont's tax-exempt fleet fuel cards on May 1, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Piedmont Mayor asked the State Department of Revenue's Motor Fuel Tax Division about the legality of providing the gas cards to fuel the vehicles of the non-profit ambulance and rescue service, not owned by the City; the response was that the practice was not legal. The City will now send the Rescue Squad a monthly check for fuel purchases rather than pay the squad's fuel card invoices, the newspaper reported.
