COLUMBIA, SC – South Carolina’s Forestry Commission said it doesn’t have enough fire equipment to cope with an above-average year of forest fires, according to an article on WSPA.com.

The Commission has 100 fewer plow and truck units than it did 10 years ago, with a total of 134 plows across the State. State Forester Gene Kodama said in the article that 170 is the ideal number. In addition, 40 percent of the fleet is more than 15 years old, with some vehicles older than 20 years. The article then discusses plans for paying for more equipment for the fire fleet.
