Carlsbad, Calif. Moves to Renewable Diesel

The City of Carlsbad, Calif., is one of a growing number of West Coast fleets fueling its diesel vehicles with renewable diesel. This allows the city to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% on these vehicles with no additional fuel cost or fleet modifications, Propel Fuels announced.

Carlsbad will run Propel Diesel HPR in its Fire Department and Public Works heavy-duty vehicles including fire trucks, dump trucks, and vacuum trucks. Renewable diesel is produced from 100% renewable inputs, and Diesel HPR meets the ASTM D-975 diesel specification for use in all diesel engines.

Renewable diesel emits less nitrogen oxide (NOx) and fine particulate (PM 2.5) emissions than diesel fuel. Diesel HPR is produced by Neste and specially formulated and distributed by Propel.

Other public agencies that are using renewable diesel include the Eugene Water & Electric Board and the City of Corvallis in Oregon, and the cities of San Francisco, Oakland, and Long Beach in California.

    Can you please tell us, by chemical equation or tail pipe analysis, how they are reducing greenhouse gasses by 80%.
