E42, E45, and E50

Bobcat

WEST FARGO, ND - The new E42, E45, and E50 models join the Bobcat M-Series compact excavator line in the 4-to-5-ton weight class. All three feature improved performance and operator comfort.

The E42 is a Conventional Tail Swing unit with an operating weight of 9,246 lbs. The E45 features Zero Tail Swing and weighs 10,077 lbs., while the E50 is a Minimal Tail Swing model weighing 10,677 lbs. The E42 and E45 come with a 41.8 horsepower liquid-cooled diesel engine while the E50 is equipped with a 48.8 horsepower engine.

Redesigned hydraulics with a load-sensing pump and closed center-valve system provide improved, refined control of machine travel and work-group operation. The new hydraulics combined with re-engineered boom geometry also result in increased bucket breakout forces. Cushioned work-group cylinders offer smooth end-of-stroke for precise control.

The E42, E45 and E50 also include an auto-idle feature which, if activated by the operator, automatically returns the engine to idle if excavator functions are not used for a period of four seconds, saving fuel and reducing jobsite noise. The engine automatically returns to the preset throttle position as soon as the operator starts working again. For precise engine speed adjustments, a new easy-to-use rotary knob has been added to the controls.

Within the operator's area, the boom swing control has been moved from the floor and placed on a thumb switch on the left joystick, making it easier to operate and opening up space on the floor for the operator's feet. New larger travel pedals fold up to provide more floor space while flush-mounted floor mats make cleanup easier. A keyless start system that discourages theft and vandalism is available as an option.

A TOPS/ROPS canopy with high-back suspension seat, retractable seat belt, cup holder, adjustable armrests and lockable toolbox is standard on the E42, E45 and E50 models while a quiet, comfortable enclosed "radio ready" cab with heat and air conditioning is available as an option. The cab includes an improved air conditioning system with a 20 percent increase in air flow and additional air ducts. An optional deluxe cloth seat is also available.

Like all Bobcat M-Series compact excavators, the E42, E45 and E50 feature an X-frame undercarriage that provides improved ground clearance and sheds debris for reduced cleanup time. Drive motors covers are inset within the motor wrap-arounds to protect them from potential damage.

Integrated slew brakes hold loads still and steady on slopes for more accurate placement. The need for the operator to manually engage the slew brakes during transport is eliminated, making it easier to load and position the machine.

In addition, Bobcat's exclusive in-track swing frame keeps the swing castings and cylinders within the width of the tracks when digging in an offset position, helping the operator dig flush against an obstacle. When other compact excavators work in an offset dig position, their components extend outside the tracks and reduce their ability to dig in tight areas.

All of the new models are available with a long arm option that maximizes dig depth, reach and dump height clearance. Other popular options include pad-ready steel tracks, a hydraulic angle blade, second auxiliary hydraulics, hydraulic clamp and Hydraulic X-Change attachment mounting systems for quickly switching between the 16 attachments approved for use on the machines.

E60 Excavator

Bobcat

WEST FARGO, ND - The E60 excavator - part of the new M-Series line of loaders and excavators - is now available from Bobcat dealers. The E60 is a new model size in the 6-ton weight class.

The E60, like the E80 launched earlier this year, features a completely new design that increases the comfort of the operator and the durability of the machine, while decreasing the frequency needed for some preventive maintenance tasks. Everything about the new excavator has been created to help keep operators working longer, including a spacious cab and a top-of-the-line seat to keep operators comfortable and polymer shims to decrease wear on the lateral pins, according to the company.

Longer service intervals

Daily greasing of the bushings at the boom, arm and bucket pivot is a thing of the past with the E60 excavator. Normally, this process takes up to 30 minutes of an operator's time each day. Now, the operator will be able to spend that time working because the E60 has extended the service interval of greasing the bushings to 250 hours, Bobcat said.

Operator comfort

The E60 revolutionizes operator comfort by offering a spacious cab with an operator seat that adjusts nine ways and a heating and air conditioning system that has true automotive-style controls. These features have been designed to keep operators who spend many hours in their machines comfortable and productive.

The seat allows the operator to create an individually designed ergonomic work environment. The operator can adjust the seat nine different ways, including moving or angling the armrests, joysticks, lumbar support, and seat bottom and back. With these adjustments, operators of any size can adjust the seat to their personal preference. These adjustments also let operators move the seat to an area where they can best control the foot pedals and see the work area.

The high-capacity climate-control system has true automotive-style controls and vents in front of and to the rear of the operator, placing the air movement exactly where needed. This system has five modes of air placement that can target the operator's body in different areas, such as from the front only, or from the front and rear.

A fixed instrument panel on the right side of the cab is a central, easy-to-read display for all of the information the operator needs on machine performance.

Attachment readiness

Each E60 is delivered clamp-ready for operators who want to quickly and easily add and use a clamp.

In addition to clamps, Bobcat provides a number of attachments available for use on the excavator. The X-Change® attachment quick coupler system, standard on the E60, allows the operator to quickly change between attachments. A complete line of attachments including trenching buckets, hydraulic breakers, earth augers and a grading bucket are available to complete even the most challenging tasks.

Fuel use

The E60 has an Interim Tier 4 50-horsepower engine. While this engine provides substantial power to complete work, it doesn't mean contractors will waste a lot of extra fuel. The engine control system on the excavator has an auto-idle feature, reducing fuel consumption when the machine is not working. Engine rpm is controlled electronically so that the operator uses only as much engine power as necessary for the application. The quiet operation of the engine is also a benefit, as many cities and work areas are becoming more sensitive to construction noise.

Additional features

With minimal tail swing, the E60 can work in compact work environments and next to buildings or other obstructions. The excavator features the Bobcat in-track swing frame, which Bobcat E60 excavator enables the boom to stay within the width of the tracks, making it even easier for the excavators to work in constricted job conditions. The E60 is available with either rubber tracks or steel tracks.

The E60, standard-equipped with cab and HVAC system, has a dig depth of 13 feet 7 inches and an operating weight of 13,556 lbs. with rubber tracks.

KX121-3 Super Series Compact Excavator with New 6-in-1 Blade

Kubota

TORRANCE, CA - Kubota introduces its KX121-3 Super Series compact excavator with optional 6-in-1 hydraulic blade. The new blade is the first on the market with extended tilt functions, allowing the blade to be angled 25 degrees and tilted 10 degrees for greater efficiency when leveling and backfilling. The blade’s float feature puts the finishing touch on backfill projects. Kubota’s KX121-3 Super Series is ideal for rental users, contractors and landscapers.

“Our angle blades have been popular for years, and now Kubota is the first tractor manufacturer to offer a 6-in-1 blade in the compact excavator category,” says Keith Rohrbacker, Kubota product manager. “This new blade includes angle, tilt and float functions, making it more efficient than a traditional angle blade.”

KX121-3 Super Series: The Ultimate Digging Machine
Kubota’s powerful and versatile KX121-3 Super Series compact excavator combines smooth operation, reliability, large-bucket capacity and long reach. The KX121-3 is equipped with a four-cylinder, 40.5-horsepower diesel engine, and features a performance-enhancing, load-sensing hydraulic system that provides optimum oil flow to each cylinder, making operation under any load easier and smoother. With a choice between Kubota’s hydraulic Float Angle Blade or the new hydraulic 6-in-1 blade, leveling and backfilling work is finished quickly and easily.

6-in-1 Blade: Easy Operation, Higher Productivity
Kubota engineered the 6-in-1 blade for easy operation. As an additional enhancement, Kubota added a “T” button on top of the blade’s operating lever to control the new tilt function, so the same motion that operates the angle blade will maneuver the tilt blade. The 6-in-1 blade features an offset indicator which highlights angle and tilt, so the operator can easily judge the blade position at all times.

The KX121-3’s new 6-in-1 blade is also wider for increased capacity and productivity. The new wider blade is five feet, 11 inches wide and extends two inches past the KX121-3’s tracks on each side, increasing the blade’s capacity by eight percent. The blade’s wide design keeps soil out of the space between the blade and the tracks and allows operators to better shape edges and complete slopes. The KX121-3 with 6-in-1 blade will boost productivity in a range of excavating projects.

Kubota Tractor Corporation, Torrance, Calif., is the U.S. marketer and distributor of Kubota-branded equipment, including a complete line of tractors up to 118 PTO hp, performance-matched implements, compact and utility-class construction equipment, consumer lawn and garden equipment, commercial turf products and utility vehicles. Pay Me Now or Pay Me Later

By Mike Antich
Fleet maintenance costs are trending upward compared to prior years. The key reason is the higher frequency of repairs on higher-mileage units as a result of the widespread deferment of equipment replacement by many government fleets. In a true case of "pay me now or pay me later," fleet managers face the challenge of how to hold maintenance costs down while operating an aging fleet.

Poor Fleet Management Can Kill

By Eric Bearly
In good times, your fleet operation can become an easy target for policy-makers trying to find money for pet projects. In hard times, the size of that target can grow out of control. When lifecycles are extended to extreme lengths, staff cuts go too deep, replacement funds are pilfered and logical fleet policy is replaced with uneducated number crunching, the results can be deadly.
