CERRITOS, CA - Cerritos College's SCCT center hosted 45 fleet professionals at a Municipal Equipment Maintenance Association (MEMA) meeting on July 21 for the Association's annual vehicle and equipment showcase. Joe Healey, CEO of FASTER Asset Solutions, gave an animated keynote presentation about developing leadership skills needed for fleet management. Healey stressed that the most successful leaders are situational leaders who are able to move between a spectrum of directive and participative leadership. He also suggested regulating rules, roles, and processes based on the experience and maturity of the team, allowing those with more experience to work with less rules and processes.

The meeting concluded with a vehicle showcase that included vehicles from manufacturers as well as from cities and counties.
It was announced that Cerritos College's Advanced Transportation Technology and Energy (ATTE) Center through partnership with El Camino Business Training Center (BTC) will provide alternative fuel vehicle training to incumbent workers of any California public entity employer, county regional transit authority, city, municipality, and/or business engaged in alternative and renewable fuel and vehicle technologies. The training is focused in a variety of clean air technologies for light- and heavy-duty vehicles including: hybrid-electric, electric, and compressed natural gas (CNG) systems. Any California public entity employer, county regional transit authority, city, municipality, and/or business engaged in alternative and renewable fuel and vehicle technologies can apply for training. The funding from the Alternative and Renewable Fuel and Vehicle Technology Program (ARFVTP) created in 2007 under Assembly Bill 118 will offset much of the training costs. The meeting included lunch and concluded with a vehicle showcase displaying vehicles from manufacturers as well as local cities and counties.
