KEY WEST, FL - A Key West Parks and Recreation Department employee arrested Dec. 21 used his city vehicle to sell drugs, reported KeysNet.com.

Key West city employee Leandre Washington, 28, was arrested Monday "following an ongoing covert operation in which he sold drugs to undercover officers," according to a city spokeswoman, reported KeysNet.

Some of the sales allegedly took place while Washington was driving a city-owned car, KeysNet reported.

When taken into custody, Washington was in possession of more than $3,200 cash, 10 grams of cocaine and "several Xanax bars," according to the Key West police account.

Washington faces two counts of selling cocaine within 1,000 feet of a school or church and two counts of using a communications device to facilitate a felony.

Washington, a groundskeeper, was hired in May 2006 and earned $25,522 annually. He had been twice warned for "leaving his work site without permission," city spokeswoman Alyson Crean said. Under Key West's employee rules, "Washington also faces suspension or discharge for committing a first-degree felony," she said, reported KeysNet.
