WAYNE, PA – AssetWorks, a provider of fleet Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) software and Automated Fuel Systems, has signed a contract to provide their fleet management software application and implementation services to the Las Vegas Valley Water District (LVVWD).

The Las Vegas Valley Water District is a not-for-profit agency that began providing water to the Las Vegas Valley in 1954. The district helped build the city's water delivery system and now provides water to more than one million people in Southern Nevada. The Water District fleet includes more than 650 cars and trucks of which 85 percent operate on alternate fuels including natural gas, bio-diesel, electric hybrids and hydrogen.

The mission of the Las Vegas Valley Water District Fleet Services Division is to provide safe, reliable, and functional vehicles, equipment, tools, and communications equipment to all District departments so they can be used to provide water to their customers. The Fleet Services Division is responsible for the safe and mechanically sound operation of the Water District's diversified fleet of vehicles and equipment. To accomplish this, Fleet Services maintains the Fuel Management System, Radio Management System, Maintenance Management System, Environmental Compliance Programs, and Fleet Equipment bid specification standards. These efforts are coordinated with the day-to-day requirements of District departments to ensure vehicles and equipment are available when needed. Along with maintaining the fleet of 650 vehicles, the Division is tasked with maintaining and repairing over 1200 communication devices (e.g., two-way radios, repeaters), over 100 farm equipment units (e.g., tractors, balers, etc. and over 500 miscellaneous equipment (e.g., golf carts, generators, heavy machinery, trailers, etc.).

To better manage their fleet and their robust asset management program, LVVWD embarked on a detailed selection project to identify an enterprise class, robust fleet asset and maintenance management software application. After a competitive procurement process that included on-site demonstrations, client site visits and a full analysis of the leading fleet software applications for public sector utility fleets, the LVVWD selected AssetWorks' FleetFocusTM enterprise asset management software suite.

LVVWD Fleet Services Manager Jim Morwood stated: "As part of the LVVWD's commitment to providing reliable, quality water, we have implemented a comprehensive asset management program. Whether it is managing a network of more than 4,000 miles of underground pipelines or hundreds of fleet vehicles, it is vital that we utilize innovative tools and technologies to ensure efficient and sustainable operations."

AssetWorks FleetFocus tracks all functions related to the maintenance of equipment, including processing repair and preventive maintenance (PM) work orders, tracking operating expenses (e.g., fuel, oil, and licensing), and tracking and billing for equipment usage. FleetFocus also supports, shop scheduling, warranty administration, replacement analysis, equipment and replacement planning, and AVL/GPS integration. With FleetFocus, organizations can reduce maintenance expenditures and inventory expenses, while simultaneously improving productivity, efficiency, and asset utilization.

Recently the Las Vegas Valley Water District's vehicle fleet was named one of the best in the nation by the Rocky Mountain Fleet Managers Association (RMFMA). It's the third consecutive time the LVVWD has received the award. Only 12 fleets nationally qualified for the recognition of more than 100 applicants.

The certification is based on eight classifications including, among other things:

  • A vehicle replacement program, which contributes to fuel efficiency.

  • Parts management operations resulting in a reduction in downtime.

  • A fleet utilization program to manage fleet size.

  • Bar-coding and paperless work-order technology.

The District has also been recognized for having one of the top ten automotive fleets in North America and a recipient of the Blue Seal of Service Award from Automotive Service Excellence.

"Meeting these requirements means the Water District is among the nation's top organizations in utilizing state-of-the-art techniques and technologies in fleet management," said LVVWD Fleet Services Manager Jim Morwood.
