KNOXVILLE, TN – The Knoxville Utilities Board (KUB) has received its first hybrid electric diesel bucket truck, which is 57 percent more efficient than the traditional kind. The truck saves fuel and reduces the amount of idling time, as crews can operate the bucket without running the truck’s engine. The vehicle will also decrease particulate emissions by 96 percent, according to www.knoxnews.com.

KUB expects to save $20,000 in fuel costs over the 12-year lifecycle of the truck.

KUB’s transportation fleet includes 522 vehicles powered by biodiesel, hybrid electric, compressed natural gas, E-10 ethanol, and E-85 ethanol.
