Volusia Council Honors Fleet Division
VOLUSIA COUNTY, FL – Volusia County’s Fleet Management Division has been named the best public sector fleet in the country for 2007 by the 100 Best Fleets program, according to the
Daytona Beach News Journal. The County Council declared Nov. 15 “Fleet Management Day” in recognition of the award, which was announced in October at a fleet manager’s conference in Norfolk, Va.
Volusia County has a roughly 2,160-vehicle fleet. Administrators said they save 40 percent to 45 percent compared to private sector costs for services, have a 96 fleet availability rate, and repeat repairs less than 1.5 percent of the time.
First-time repair success and competitive pricing are two of several criteria used by the 100 Best Fleets program, which is sponsored by Government Fleet magazine, FASTER fleet management information and services company, CCG Systems, and consultant and author Tom Johnson.
Fort Wayne, Ind., got the award last year, while Chicago received it the year before.
