Three Finalists Named for 2007 Public Sector Fleet Manager of the Year Award

TORRANCE, CAGovernment Fleet’s 2007 Public Sector Fleet Manager of the Year finalists are:

  • Bob Stanton, fleet manager, Polk County, Fla.

  • Windell Mitchell, fleet manager, King County, Wash.

  • John Clements, manager, fleet operations, County of San Diego, Calif.
    This year’s award received a record-breaking 29 nominations representing the best in public fleet management. The leads sponsor for the award is Automotive Resources International (ARI), and the award is co-sponsored by Fleet Counselor Services.

    The winner of the 2007 Public Sector Fleet Manager of the Year Award, sponsored by Automotive Resources International (ARI) and co-sponsored Fleet Counselor Services, will be announced in Houston, Texas., May 6, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in Meeting Room 339AB at the Hilton Americas. The Hilton Americas is also the site of the National Association of Fleet Administrators (NAFA) Fleet Management Institute (FMI) and the Law Enforcement Group (LEG) conference.

    Now in its third year, the annual award ceremony is open to all. A panel of 17 judges, all of whom are public sector fleet managers, ranked the nominees in nine areas of fleet management. The nine fleet management categories were:


  • Business plan development.

  • Computer systems and technology utilization.

  • Productivity initiatives.

  • Policies and procedures development and implementation.

  • Preventive maintenance programs.

  • Utilization management.

  • Vehicle acquisition and replacement programs.

  • Customer service and downtime initiatives.

  • Fuel management program. Last year’s winner was John McCorkhill, fleet manager for the City of Lynchburg, Va.
