FRESNO, CA – John Hunt, fleet manager for the city of Fresno, has won Government Fleet’s 2005 Public Sector Fleet Manager of the Year Award, sponsored by Automotive Resources International (ARI) and co-sponsored by Fleet Counselor Services, Inc. Hunt was recognized for his record on customer satisfaction, environmental compliance, cost efficiencies, and his “run it like you own it” philosophy. He manages a team of 70 and oversees a fleet of approximately 1,800 city-owned vehicles at three shop facilities. Recent challenges include implementing a cryogenic fueling infrastructure, converting to Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) refuse trucks, obtaining diesel exhaust after-treatment verifications, implementing a prototype medium-duty hybrid truck technology, and designing the most technologically advanced police patrol sedan available. Hunt came onboard with the city of Fresno in 1987 as a heavy equipment mechanic working on refuse trucks before moving into fleet administration in 1991 and becoming provisional fleet manager in 2001.
City of Fresno fleet recognitions include:
