I have made some informal inquiries on this and the number seems to be around 25:1. My current mechanic to fleet ratio is 49:1 and I have recently talked to one agency back east that has a ratio of over 100:1. Our bus fleet, not part of my fleet, hovers around 3.4:1.
Getting these figures confirmed as fact has been difficult. This would be a great question to pose to government fleets as well as the ratio for supervisory staff.
Maybe this could be included as one of the questions in the "Largest Public Fleets" survey.
