AUBURN HILLS, MI - Chrysler has released some details about its upcoming 2011 Dodge Charger Pursuit patrol vehicle with suspension designed for better handling and an electronic stability control system calibrated for better control during high-speed chases.
The Dodge Charger Pursuit offers an all-new standard E-85 capable 3.6L Pentastar V-6 engine with variable-valve timing (VVT). The 3.6L Pentastar engine is expected to offer a sizable boost in horsepower for the six-cylinder police Charger.
Chrysler is not giving details at this time, but the same engine is currently available in the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, which generates 290 horsepower. The 2010 3.5L six-cylinder police Charger is rated at 250 horsepower. A 5.7L 360-horsepower hemi V-8 engine with fuel-saving Multi-displacement System (MDS) will also be available.
The Pursuit will arrive with performance suspension tuning, heavy-duty anti-lock vented-disc brakes (ABS), front- and rear-stabilizer bars, 18-inch performance tires on steel wheels and two-mode police-specific Electronic Stability Control (ESC) calibration. For enhanced ride and performance handling dynamics, the Dodge Charger Pursuit features a rear-wheel drive design and redesigned front and rear multi-link suspension geometries.
Designed with the guidance of the brand's Police Advisory Board, the 2011 Dodge Charger Pursuit's mobile-command interior features a Police Interface Module for easy equipment integration, police-duty front seats, column-mounted automatic transmission with Auto Stick, red/white LED interior lighting for night-vision equipment, and more.
The 2011 Dodge Charger Pursuit will be available for ordering in September through Chrysler Group LLC's fleet operations. A Chrysler spokesman told Police Magazine the car should be available for delivery at the end of the year, and it may be at the Michigan State Police Vehicle Test next month.
