ARTICLE TOOLS        | E-MailPrint

BASINGSTOKE, ENGLAND - Westminster TranServ, the Balfour Beatty, and Mouchel Group joint venture, which provides highways maintenance, street lighting, and management technology services to Westminster City Council, has boosted its ‘green fleet’ with a Smith Newton 7.5t truck with a tipper body.

The latest zero-carbon emissions arrival, powered by four sodium nickel chloride 278v batteries and a 120kw induction motor, will be used for general highway maintenance duties on roads across central London.

The Smith Newton motors along at a top speed of 50 mph and can travel up to 100 miles from a single charge. It can be charged on board or via domestic mains. The truck’s body is built from an ultra-light, totally recyclable material, and it comes with power-assisted steering, front and rear suspension, and a hydraulic brake system.
