PHOENIX Redflex Traffic Systems has removed all mobile photo enforcement vehicles operated by Redflex employees in Arizona after the murder of a Redflex employee April 19 by an angered motorist, according to a company statement.

Redflex employee Douglas Georgianni was shot and killed while performing his duties on the Loop 101 Freeway in Phoenix. While Phoenix Police Department and Arizona Department of Public Safety investigate the shooting, the vehicles will be out operation. Other photo enforcement vendors operating in Arizona have also temporarily suspended mobile photo enforcement operations.

Redflex photo enforcement vehicles in Louisiana, the only other state where the vehicles are operated by REDFLEX employees, have been put on hold until further notice while the consequences of the murder are considered.

Police arrested a man April 20 in connection with the fatal shooting and are considering bringing appropriate charges for murder, according to the company. The arrest came after the shooter's vehicle was captured on streaming video taken by the mobile photo enforcement vehicle and identified by police.

Certain areas such as Lafayette may put two of the company's speed vans back in operation shortly, according to The Daily Advertiser.
