PLANT CITY, FL - The Plant City, Fla., police department recently rolled out four Commander I Victory Police motorcycles for its traffic management unit, replacing Harley-Davidsons. The City cited a warranty and maintenance agreement that would save thousands, according to the Tampa Tribune.
City Council approved the purchase in June. The motorcycles each cost $18,499 plus $12,678 in additional equipment, totaling $124,708. Equipment includes emergency lights, siren, skid plate, radar, two-way radio, etc. The vehicles were paid for by funds allocated in the police department's budget, according to a City agenda report.
The report also stated the motorcycles have an "exclusive 'tip over' technology placing them as the benchmark in officer safety."
The vehicles are made in the United States.
Victory recently delivered or will soon deliver its motorcycles to police departments in Seattle; Apache Junction, Ariz.; Lenexa, Kan.; Pearl, Miss.; and Windsor in Canada, according to Mike Schultz, director of sales. He stated that one of the benefits for the motorcycles is they come equipped and ready for use on the day of delivery.
The vehicle manufacturer provides technician training at its facility and also has an optional pre-paid maintenance agreement based on miles driven.
