Erie County Saves Money With GPS

BUFFALO, NY – As global positioning comes to the Erie County fleet, officials are looking at $650,000 a year in fuel and maintenance costs, with only $150,000 in start up costs to place the units in 200 county vehicles, according to the WBEN Newsroom.

“It lets us monitor on a vehicle by vehicle basis things like gas usage, idling, we can map routes, we can re-direct people,” said County Executive Chris Collins,"  quoted by WBEN.

The devices will also be able to track misuse of vehicles, but the County Executive is quick to add that hasn’t been a problem in Erie County.
