MINNEAPOLIS - Polaris Industries recently introduced its new RANGER EV, a Side-by-Side built specifically for clean and quiet operation.
With the largest battery pack in the industry (11.5 kilowatts), the longest range of any electric Midsize vehicle (50 miles), 25 mph top speed and two hours of riding time between charges, the RANGER EV operates at about $0.035 per mile versus $0.09 per mile on a comparable gas vehicle, making it not only more eco-friendly, but more economical, according to Polaris.
"The RANGER EV was built due to the consumer demand for alternative-powered vehicles," said Jan Rintamaki of Polaris. "When building the vehicle, we took our best-in-class Utility Side-by-Side vehicle and made it usable to a whole new community."
In creating their first electric vehicle, Polaris wanted an electric Side-by-Side that kept all the attributes of its other RANGER vehicles. A common misconception of electric vehicles is the consumer has to give up performance or work-ability in exchange for economy. Polaris set out to prove this wrong by giving the RANGER EV a 500 lb. cargo box with 1,250 lb. towing and 1,000 lb. total payload to ensure the vehicle had a strong work ethic. The unit also features three modes; High for speed, Low for towing and hauling, and Max for maximum range. On-Demand True All-Wheel Drive tackles harsh terrain and one-wheel, rear-wheel drive prevents damage to sensitive terrains, making the RANGER EV easier on the environment. And the model's exclusive 48-volt, AC Induction motor provides high performance with low maintenance and can be charged using a standard 110 vac outlet.
The RANGER EV retails for $10,699 and is available at Polaris dealerships nationwide.

Rated at 175 kW, the new XQ175 generator set delivers power with the fuel-efficient Cat C6.6 engine. "The XQ175 incorporates several features rental fleet managers have never seen before," said Scott Heppner, Rental Marketing Manager, Caterpillar Electric Power Division. "Today, Caterpillar is pleased to offer a complete line of towable generator sets for rental, municipal, or mobile generator set end-users, rated from 20 kW to 400 kW."
Industry-leading features include a radiator compartment door for quick and easy access for radiator cleaning, as well as improved durability for internal cleaning. "The benefit to a rental fleet manager is dramatically reduced turnaround time of equipment, and time is money," said Heppner. The generator set is capable of switching between 480/277 V or 208/120 V 3-phase operation utilizing robust and cost-effective voltage changeover board instead of a voltage selector switch. "This design reduces cost while using fewer components, which mean less 'wear and tear' or opportunity for downtime."
"While saving cost by reducing component count, we knew we had to maintain high quality overall." Brian Kruse, Caterpillar's Rental Power Product Manager explained, "That's why we standardized features like Camlock distribution connections, sheet steel enclosures pretreated with zinc phosphate before polyester powder coating, and dual wall UL-approved fuel tanks with spill containment. We also included robust sound attenuation and premium permanent magnet generators for improved motor starting and load control."
The package was designed with the operator in mind, for ease of use and improved monitoring capabilities. The control panel is collocated with the distribution panel. Analog gauges are easily readable for oil pressure, engine temperature, voltage, amperage, frequency, fuel level and battery voltage. Indicators alert customers to low coolant level, low fuel level or fuel leak, low oil pressure, overspeed, and emergency shutdown. Operator use is further enhanced by 3-pole UL/CSA-listed molded case circuit breaker that feed a variety of convenience receptacles. These include California Twistlocks for the needs of the construction market, Camlocks for quick 3-phase cable connections, and 3-phase NEMA locking receptacles ideally suited towards the special events business.
Furthermore, the mobile unit provides bus connections accepting a variety of lug and cable sizes, giving machines ultimate flexibility. One feature, unique to the rental industry product, is a safety switch on the cable lug connection door. "If an inexperienced person attempts to open the cable lug connection door while the bus is energized, this switch immediately sends a signal to open the breaker, preventing harm that might otherwise occur," said Kruse.

MicroGreen Extended Performance Oil Filter

Marketed under the brand name SMARTfleet Solutions, Green Gas Laboratories' five-point EcoSMART Lube fleet conversion quickly makes vehicles more fuel efficient and eco-friendly, while greatly reducing the expense and time associated with periodic oil changes, said the company.
The EcoSMART fleet conversion replaces the vehicle's existing oil filter with the new microGreen Extended Performance Oil Filter. Validated with extensive laboratory and on-road testing, this unique patented filter reduces oil maintenance costs by 65 percent, decreases the use of motor oil by 70 percent, and reduces the number of filter changes by 50 percent. Designed as two-filters-in-one, the microGreen filter is a spin-on filter and is installed in the same method as traditional oil filters. However, unlike traditional oil filters that capture particles down to 25 to 30 microns, the microGreen oil filter captures particles down to 2 microns in size, keeping the oil cleaner, like new oil, and maintaining the additive package.
In addition to the microGreen filter change, SMARTfleet Solutions' EcoSMART Lube conversion includes changing the oil to higher quality pure synthetic oil, a bio-degradable cooling system service, a nitrogen tire fill to ensure optimum fuel efficiency, and a fuel and emissions system check using a professional OBD II connector scan tool. Bobcat M-Series Excavators

Bobcat, the only company that manufactures compact excavators in the United States, once again brings innovation to compact equipment with the introduction of the new M-Series excavators.
The new compact excavators are re-engineered to deliver increased performance in a lighter machine. Throughout each model are enhancements that save precious time and labor, make operators more comfortable and provide peace of mind.
The new E32 and E35 M-Series excavators are in the popular 3-to-4-ton weight class. These two machines follow the introduction of the new M-Series E80, which is in the larger 6-to-8-ton weight class. With the M-Series introduction, Bobcat is instituting a new numbering system for excavators. The new machine numbers now correspond to the excavator's weight in metric tons. For example, the "32" in E32 is for 3.2 metric tons.
Ultimate digging performance
Bobcat has completely re-engineered the design of M-Series excavators, reducing the weight to create a lighter machine. A new load-sensing piston pump and closed center-valve system deliver exceptional metering for smooth control of machine functions. With the new advanced hydraulic system, Bobcat was able to increase the arm breakout force by 10 percent over previous models.
The E32 is a Conventional Tail Swing excavator, and the re-engineered house has reduced the overhang by 45 percent from previous excavators of comparable size. The E35 is a Zero Tail Swing excavator that excels at working on space-constrained jobsites, such as next to buildings or other obstacles.
Bobcat designed the M-Series excavators to use X-frame undercarriages. This new undercarriage has increased ground clearance and enables better shedding of debris for easier cleanup when work is finished. Dirt and other debris easily pass through this undercarriage, making cleanup faster and leaving less debris on the trailers.
The new Auto-Shift travel on the E32 and E35 boost the machines' productivity. Auto-Shift travel shifts the machine out of high range and back automatically, which provides an on-demand power boost when pushing into a pile. Operators get more tractive effort without having to manually control the throttle or drive.
Backfill work goes faster with an accurate, productive angle blade. The E35 features an optional angle blade that provides simultaneous up/down and angle adjustment. Exclusive to Bobcat's angle blade is the bolt-on replaceable cutting edge that is easy to rotate and simple to replace, providing lower operating costs.
Quieter operation and all-day comfort
The E32 and E35 also include an Auto-Idle feature. The Auto-Idle feature, which can be enabled at the operator's discretion, automatically causes the engine to return to idle if the excavator's functions are not used for a period of four seconds. The machine automatically returns to the preset throttle position after the operator starts working again. When work is paused, fuel is saved and sound levels are reduced.
The new engine, air intake, cooling and exhaust systems, along with an entirely new pump and valve system lower sound levels, resulting in a more comfortable, quieter machine. The overall sound levels have been reduced by more than 50 percent. New directional lug tracks also offer a smoother ride.
Superior operator comfort
A significant contributor to excavator productivity is the comfort of the operator. Bobcat has designed the cab so the operator is comfortable in the machine, whether spending one hour or a whole day at the controls. On the new E32 and E35, the boom swing control has been removed from the floor and placed on a thumb switch on the left joystick, which is easier to operate and opens up space on the floor for the operator's feet. The new larger travel pedals also fold up for more floor space.
New adjustable armrests allow the operator to move the rests to a more comfortable position. For precise engine speed adjustments, Bobcat added a new easy-to-use rotary knob.
The new E32 and E35 excavators also feature an integrated slew brake. The brake eliminates the need to manually engage a slew brake when transporting the machine, and provides infinite brake positioning.
Options and specifications
Popular excavator options previously offered on Bobcat excavators are still available on M-Series models, including long arm, enclosed cab, climate control, auxiliary hydraulics, angle blade and Hydraulic X-Change mounting systems for quickly switching between the 16 attachments approved for use on the machines.
A lockable toolbox and pocket console keep tools and paperwork close at hand and secure, while rear and side access doors and fuel fills are also lockable to prevent vandalism.
The E32 and E35 have 33.3 horsepower engines, dig depths of 10 feet 2 inches and a dump height of 11 feet 3 inches. The E32 has a reach at ground level of 16 feet, and the E35 has a ground-level reach of 16 feet 9 inches.
