Nonprofit Aims to Help Towns Make Switch to Biodiesel

PORTSMOUTH, NH – New Hampshire has created Green Start, a new statewide nonprofit organization based in Portsmouth that is working to make biodiesel for vehicles so commonplace in New Hampshire that it will be found at the local gas station, according to www.seacoastonline.com.

Green Start is the brainchild of area residents who all share an interest in the environment and a concern about global warming, said Dr. Geoffrey Clark of Portsmouth, the board’s chairman. Other members of the board include state Rep. David Borden of New Castle; Jane James, managing partner of Marple and James Real Estate in Portsmouth; and Professor Dorn Cox of the University of New Hampshire.

Currently, the only vehicles consistently using a B-20 biofuel mix are the ambulances, dump trucks, and school buses belonging to towns and school departments big enough to have their own storage tanks or access to a regional one.

Portsmouth is one such municipality. According to Public Works Director Steve Parkinson, virtually the entire city’s fleet of fire trucks, ambulances, and DPW trucks are using a B-20 mix.

Green Start board members plan to go into area schools to talk to children about biodiesel.

    Great story

The green Start non - profit is doing a great job promoting biodiesel in NH . Just want everyone to know that the City of Keene Fleet manger who has used biodiesel in its fleet for over 6 years has been to Portsmouth on several occasions to educate them on the use of the b-20 blend of course invited by Green start on a couple of occasions. B-20 really works and the City of Keene has a great deal of experience with the fuel to prove it!
