MARIETTA - Marietta police have unveiled their new electric vehicles.

The three-wheelers, called T3 Personal Electric Mobility Vehicles, are outfitted with sirens and blue lights. Police officers stand on an elevated platform, which allows them to see slightly above a crowd, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The department bought two $12,000 electric vehicles from T3 Motion Inc., which is based in Costa Mesa, Calif., with drug forfeiture funds. Officers will use them in high-density areas such as the Franklin Roadcorridor and office parks.

They run on two batteries, which hold a charge of 12 hours. They are charged with regular electric current. The vehicles are relatively quiet and easy to maneuver, which will give police officers flexibility in places like breezeways at apartment complexes.
