Cost of Gas Has City of Lynn Officials on Alert

ARTICLE TOOLS        | E-MailPrint RSS

LYNN, MA – With fuel prices soaring, City of Lynn's Department of Public Works commissioner Jay Fink asked all departments in January to monitor their costs, which he said has solely been absorbed by the DPW budget in the past, according to www.thedailyitemoflynn.com.

However, now, each department will have to handle their own costs so they are aware of how much fuel is actually being used.

Purchased in bulk at a discounted rate, fuel is stored in private pumps which city employees can access by using a specific key and code that tracks the date and mileage of each vehicle.

Aside from monitoring usage, the city might also replace some of the older vehicles across the city with more fuel efficient, smaller models, such as a Ford Focus to reduce some of the pain at the pump.
